FAITHFUL FRIEND Lyrics

by Steven Curtis Chapman and Twila Paris, 1996
from Twila's album "Where I Stand"

(Twila)
Everyone knows you
As a man of honor
I am glad to know you
Simply as a friend

You've always taken
Time to be my brother
And I'll be standing by you in the end

But I will never put you on a pedestal
I thank the Lord for everything you do
I'll be there to pray for you and for the ones you love
I believe that He will finish all He's started in you

I will be an open
Door that you can count on
Anywhere you are
Anywhere you've been
I will be an honest
Heart you can depend on
I will be your faithful friend.

(Steven)
I am one of many
Whose path has been made clearer
By the light you've carried faithfully
As a warrior and a child

God has used you greatly
To encourage and inspire
You've remained a true friend all the while

So I will never put you on a pedestal
Cause we both know all the glory is the Lord's
And I'll be there to pray that He will keep you by His grace
And I always will remind you to be seeking His face

(Together!)
I will be an open
Door that you can count on
Anywhere you are
Anywhere you've been
I will be an honest
Heart you can depend on
I will be a faithful friend

(Twila)
Should it ever come your time to mourn
I will weep with you
And every single time you win
I'm celebrating, too
(Together!)
Oh, I will celebrate with you

I will be an open
Door that you can count on
Anywhere you are
Anywhere you've been
I will be an honest
Heart you can depend on
I will be a faithful friend

I will be faithful
I will be a faithful friend.

I actually have the full sheet music to the song as a PDF (with guitar chords) if anyone needs it (a great song to perform live as a duet!) I scanned it from a paperback Twila Paris songbook I still own so I have the original. Here is a PDF with just the chords.
E-Mail me if interested in the full sheet music with piano accompaniment. Unfortunately they make those songbooks so they do not scan well on my little scanner so the bottom of the page is cut off. My songbook has a number of good pieces since Twila always writes good piano accompaniments to her songs (so does Chris Rice.) I have a Steven Curtis Chapman and a MercyMe songbook too, but their piano accompaniments are not as good. Other songs included in my Twila Paris song book ("Twenty Favorites", ISBN 0793578574 from 1997) include "The Warrior is a Child", "God Is In Control", "How Beautiful", "He Is Exalted" and others, so if you need a scan of one of those songs let me know.

Here is a YouTube Link to watch them perform the song together back at the 1996 Dove Awards.
Here is another video
where you can hear Twila discussing the song with clips of recording the song with Steven.
