Other Charities Recommended by Calculator Users

I will have to admit there are a ton of other great charities out there, and over the years people have suggested quite a few. Here is a list of some of them. I can not say I know or can recommend them personally, but I am willing to list all such organizations people tell me about
  • Fisher House Foundation - A group that builds houses similar to Ronald McDonald House but are located near military and VA hospitals, where family members can stay for free while their loved ones are undergoing treatment. One e-mailer's husband was fortunate enough to have met Zach Fisher, the originator of this program, during his days on active duty, and they are avid supporters of Fisher House Foundation. I noticed that they are taking contributions to build one here in St. Louis starting next year. Sounds like a good idea!
  • St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - Here is an incredible research organization that I felt uncomfortable putting on my charities list. No, not because there is anything wrong with them; just because they are one of the customers of the biotech company where I am employed, and it doesn't seem right to ask folks to send money to a wonderful institution that helps to pay my salary. Then it wouldn't really be charity on my part, would it? Not surprisingly several different people have actually suggested I add them to my list. Read their site to see some of the amazing things they do.
  • Morgan Scott Project for Cooperative Christian Concerns - The purpose is to provide a common cooperative base for churches, agencies, and individuals within Morgan and Scott counties (Tennessee), to identify and seek solutions to the problems of human needs; to develop component projects, activities, training and other endeavors which will help to break the cycle of poverty and enable people to learn to help themselves.
  • Children's Miracle Network - Children's Miracle Network is an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America. Each year these non-profit hospitals treat more than 14 million children afflicted with diseases, injuries and birth defects of every kind.
  • Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome Foundation - The Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndromes (SADS) Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was established on December 12, 1991 by G. Michael Vincent, M.D. and several dedicated co-founders for the purpose of helping prevent sudden and unexpected cardiac death in children and in young adults. The SADS Foundation is dedicated to providing information, assistance & hope.
  • Make-A-Wish Foundation - The Make-A-Wish Foundation® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.
  • United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) - UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential.
  • Children's Cup - Children's Cup's purpose is to take humanitarian and spiritual aid into the hard places where war, natural disasters and disease epidemics have devastated societies. These children in hard places know horrors our children have never heard of. Food, shelter, medicine and education are not enough to heal their emotions. Most have been sexually abused, beaten and some have even been forced to murder and maim as child warriors. They need hope. Hope's name is Jesus!
  • Shaohannah's Hope - Shaohannah's Hope is a foundation being developed by Steven Curtis and Mary Beth Chapman. It is their desire to continue and spread what was started in their family in March of 2000 when they adopted Shaohannah Hope Yan Chapman from a Changsha orphanage in China's Hunan province. Together with the Board of Directors, it is the Chapman's hope that this foundation will provide information and assistance to people with an interest in adopting or supporting adoption organizations.
  • The Heat And Warmth Fund - This organization helps inner city children and families find shelter in the winter time when they have no home or can't afford their heat, as well as many other activities (ie: blanket distribution, etc...).
  • Compassion International - In response to the Great Commission, Compassion International exists as an advocate for children, to release them from their spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty and enable them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults.
